A 35-year-old woman, six months pregnant, underwent a clandestine abortion and was left with an epileptic seizure. Initially, the patient took pills known as "abortifacients" and then went to a clinic in the city of La Paz. The couple and the doctor are under arrest.

According to the sub-director of the Special Force Against Crime (FELCC), Juan José Donaire, the woman presented bleeding that caused a hypovolemic shock crisis. The abortion pill caused her health to deteriorate with severe bleeding.

"This circumstance has caused him health problems with extraordinary bleeding (...) which has meant that he has had to attend a medical centre in the Baptista area of the city of La Paz, where there are premises in which they operate in some form of informality", reported Donaire.

The police authority indicated that according to the reference of the doctor at the clinic who performed clandestine abortions, an intervention was recommended which caused damage to the patient.
